This family of four, along with their labradoodle, recently relocated from New Jersey to a secluded, wooded cul-de-sac in Haverford, just outside Philadelphia. The home they moved into, while nestled in an idyllic setting, was outdated and felt cramped with its boxy interior layout.
Our first step, as always, was to evaluate the flow and layout of the space. We transformed it into an airy, open-plan living area that included a kitchen, breakfast nook, and living room with double-height ceilings. The design emphasized clean, serene spaces using a neutral color scheme accented with vibrant pops of color, like the green chairs in the breakfast area.
The renovation was extensive, stripping back the old to make way for the new. We installed natural oak millwork and flooring that beautifully contrasted with the custom-built, arch-shaped bar crafted from long slabs of stone. The material palette was rich and varied, including wools, mohairs, linens, as well as walnut and oak, to add texture and warmth.
Artisanal furniture, including tables and chairs sourced from South African artisans, complemented the interior’s earthy tones. The renovation dramatically improved the flow of natural light, making the home feel more connected to its serene, wooded surroundings.
